Senior Design Team sdmay20-14 • 115kV / 34.5kV Solar Power Plant --DESC-- Substation Design Project

About Our Project

Due to the huge changes in the grid energy market that lead to traditional energy sources being significantly replaced with renewable energy sources (RES) such as wind and solar, companies like Black and Veatch have expanded their work into the solar fields. With their work in the clean energy field Black and Veatch has decided to sponser a senior design project. Our team, Team sdmay20-14, has worked dilingently with Black and Veatch to create a 115kV/34.5kV Distribution Substation and 60MW Solar Power Plant. The project team was responsible for the complete design of both parts which included solar layout, protection and control design, electrical layout, and associated construction deliverables. The project team also performed various calculations required of a typical substation, including grounding calculations based on IEEE 80. Our focus for the first semester was the solar power plant design which included selecting the budget, location, equipment layout, sizing, array tool parameters, single line diagram, and the control and protection design. In the second semester we will be working on the design of the substation and and optimized solar design.
